After traveling to various wine regions across the world, we know all too well that deciding what to pack can be daunting. Overall, think smart-casual with a splash (or double-shot) of Western.

Shops and tasting rooms in wine country generally close on the early side. So, plan your wine country travel packing to get you from 10a-5p, and you should be set.

Because it can be tough, we built this packing inspiration guide for the Fall to help inspire your next suitcase before heading to wine country. Follow this guide for what to wear, and you’ll be ready for photo opps throughout your trip with any of these looks.

The Dress

Not sure what to wear? These deep fall colors with pops of interest say “I’m fun and sophisticated”, because you are. Paired with a natural (suede or leather) accessory, these are quintessential wine country looks to pack that will carry you from morning to evening. Wine country is casual. Think about blending in with your beautiful surroundings, and the cooler weather… these dresses can anchor your look-of-the-day, no matter where your itinerary takes you.

The Base Sets

Rotating days by packing dresses and top-bottom sets will give you the options you’ll want for wine country trip attire. Mix in sweaters with jeans, sweater-pant matching sets, or pants with sophisticated-casual tops that deliver a unique point of interest. These examples can help inspire a day or two of packing for elevated wine country travel.

The Jacket

It’s typically much cooler in the mornings and evenings, so when packing for wine country travel, be prepared for layering up each day. Natural textures remain the name of the game in wine country. Wool, cashmere, suede, canvas, muted leathers and denim all shine in the vines. Once the morning fog burns off, you’ll want to shed a layer. We like to mix and match color tones with bases and outerwear to brighten up our photos in the wine tasting rooms.

The Purse

Be sure to bring a shoulder sidekick (or three) who’s there for you in wine country. Pack a bag whose got a personality, but who’s also smart and tasteful. Leathers and suedes are a must in wine country for the Fall. Be inspired by these beautiful bags and bring a lineup along for the ride. While you may not know if you like the ’21 or the ’23 Pinot Noir better,  you’ll look the part while you’re revisiting the top contenders.

The Hat

When thinking about what to wear when traveling to wine country, the Hat is the unspoken requirement. After all, you’re heading to visit grape and olive farms! Fly wearing it or carry it on. Go ahead and shout it from the airport terminal that you’re headed to the vineyards. For a trip that will have you outdoors throughout the day, the “wine country hat” is an essential packing staple for your trip wardrobe. However, we recommend bringing it out selectively, just once or twice, during your longest day in the vines, so as not to ‘overdo’ it… stay cool, friends.

The Sunglasses

Which sunglasses to wear in wine country? Sunnies, rims, shades… pack them all. There are endless photo opportunities throughout beautiful wine country and you’ll likely take hundreds of pictures. To mix up your looks for the photo album, and without bulking up the luggage, pack some shade variety and wear a different pair each day. We tend to avoid wearing a lot of heavy black or flashy metals in wine country — we save that for our more metropolitan travel.

The Boots

Thinking through footwear to pack for wine country is foundational. Comfort is important in wineries. You’ll be on your feet a lot of the day — and could find yourself walking dusty, dirty rows of vines, the wine-stained floors of barrel rooms or treading well-loved splintered floors in century-old structures. Sneakers are another option to round out the boot looks when considering what to wear when traveling to wine country,

The Jewels

Understated natural stones and beadwork are the relevant jewelry style to wear in wine country. Save your sequins, metallics, glitter and sparkles to pack for Vegas! Think turquoise, natural gemstones, agate, colorful beads, threads and your other more natural jewelry to accessorize your earth-derived attire during your wine country trip.
