Inside the Spellbinding Tasting Experience at Faust Wines

On a hilltop in St. Helena, a brooding black 19th-century Victorian rises above the vines like something out of a gothic fairy tale. This is Faust Haus—the home of Faust Wines—and from the moment guests arrive, it’s clear this is not a typical stop along the Napa Valley wine trail.

Guests are greeted with a glass of sauvignon blanc and ushered inside a house designed around a playful duality: heaven above, and hell below, inspired by the Faust legend, also depicted on the wines’ striking labels. The interiors move intentionally between these two moods—bright, airy rooms upstairs feel light and welcoming, while downstairs the atmosphere turns darker and more mysterious. The experience follows to a hidden speakeasy, a vine-covered secret room calling to be discovered.

But the architecture is only the beginning. With sweeping views toward Howell Mountain, Faust Haus is an endlessly photogenic maze of beautifully designed spaces, each offering its own temper for tastings. The aesthetic exudes mystery—part cinematic wine salon, part modern Napa house party. It acts less like a tasting room and more like you’ve been invited into an impossibly stylish home.

And that’s exactly the point. The Faust team designed the tasting experience around warmth and connection. The service is relaxed, engaging, and deeply knowledgeable.

Faust’s entire portfolio of small production wines, led by winemaker David Jelinek and Estate Director Jen Beloz, originates from their Coombsville Estate. Their flagship Cabernet, The Pact, is the winery’s most coveted release, and is crafted to “reflect the unique terroir and seasonal character of the Faust Estate Vineyard.

Tasting the wines here, in the house that defines the brand, brings the story full circle. Guests leave not only with a deeper understanding of the vineyard and vintage, but with a sense that they’ve experienced something magical: a place where wine, design, and hospitality intersect effortlessly.

Faust Haus doesn’t feel like a you’ve attended a tasting appointment—it feels like you received a special invitation. One that stays with you long after the final sip. And like the best Napa discoveries, it tends to inspire two things before you leave: a bottle to enjoy later at home… and plans to return.
